Fire Alarms In Churches

I am a member of the Buildings Committee of my local parish church. I have been on the Committee for about 12 years and in all that time I have been trying to convince members there that the church needs a fire alarm system. The church is St Marys Parish church in the town centre of Luton and it is the only Grade 1 listed building in town so needs looking after.
I have had meetings with Diocese in St Albans to which the church comes under and they have said there is a requirement but I seem to be hitting a brick wall with other church members.
What are your comments or arguments on this topic?

Optima Xl6 Stopped Working

Hi all,

Optima XL6 has been working perfectly since we moved in, 5 odd years. Been installed for circa 14 years.

Came back after a long weekend to find the electricity tripped on the same circuit as the alarm.

Resetting made no difference. Currently only the power light and zone 1 light is lit up. The keypad does not respond to any input and there is no sound. The PCB has no black marks, nothing seems to have burn't out.

I'm thinking it's probably the battery finally died. However before spending 10 quid on a new one, does anyone know what the fault may be given the symptoms above? The manual does not identify faults by light sequences etc.

However, must point out, even after killing the mains power, the zone 1 light is still lit up red, so there must be juice in the battery? So it might not be the battery...?

Sensormatic Speed Dome Ultra V--can It Accept 485?

Hi-

I bought a used SensorMatic Speed Dome Ultra V I would like to control with a Honeywell DVR.

The DVR has Sensormatic protocol, but I can't seem to get the dome to respond to commands. I hooked the TX- and TX+ on the DVR to the RS-422 RX- and RX+ inputs on the dome, set the PTZ settings to Sensormatic protocol, 9600 , 8, N, 1 and made sure the device ID (on the three little white dials on the dome, and in the DVR settings) matched, but no dice.

I am powering the dome on 24VAC. It seems to start up normally (goes through a pan/tilt sequence, video comes on, shows boot version, etc. and goes to what I assume is the home position. But then, it says "Checking Network Type" That's it. Won't accept commands from the DVR.

I have the twist-on IO-style base on the dome. I took it off, popped the I/O card out, and verified that everything is hooked up to the right terminals (found a dome install manual online.)

I did notice that my DVR outputs RS-485, and the camera inputs are RS-422. Someplace I thought I read that 422 devices could accept commands from 485 drivers, but not vice versa.

How can I make this work? Do I need an RS-485 to RS-422 converter? The dome manual says it also accepts SensorNet data, and Manchester protocol. The DVR (a Honeywell HRDP) doesn't support either.

Can anyone help?

Thanks, Chris

Hi And Hoping For Friendly Info

Hi,

So this is my first post, to say hi!

My reason for signing up is that I am currently a sole trader sparky who gets involved in electrics and some fire alarms. However a few of my bigger customers are now asking me to do intruder alarms too and I am wanting to find out what hoops I need to jump through in order to offer a good quality service as a intruder alarm installer as I do with elecrics and fire.

I should say that 90% of my customers are commercial if that makes a difference.

Many thanks in advance
Luke.

Hi looking for some info. Working on a project just now where I require feedback infro from the preset pots on a pan and tilt unit. I could use a Analogue to digital converter connected to the preset voltage from the pot directly but I think there is a way to get the info from the BBV RX55 Receiver on its data line (RS422).

Has anyone come across this before, or can you point me in the right direction for info? I have seen a MOXA unit connected to the data line on a RX55 before that converted the RS422 to IP and a PC at the other end was able to view the pan pot position.

Hope I made this question clear enough as to what I am trying to achieve.

LED flashed, No ZOOM.

I tell you, it's doing my tree in, stripping the camera block down will be done on an " if it has to be done " basis.

Also, I have tested this on a DVR and a PC PTZ Controller, still no use....

Anyone have any suggestions,

Regards

Nick

All of the world's economic systems - socialism, communism, fascism, and even the vaunted free enterprise system - perpetuate social stratification, elitism, nationalism, and racism, primarily based on economic disparity. As long as a social system uses money or barter, people and nations will seek to maintain the economic competitive edge or, if they cannot do so by means of commerce they will by military intervention. We still utilize these same outmoded methods.

Our current monetary system is not capable of providing a high standard of living for everyone, nor can it ensure the protection of the environment because the major motive is profit. Strategies such as downsizing and toxic dumping increase the profit margin. With the advent of automation, cybernation, artificial intelligence and out sourcing, there will be an ever-increasing replacement of people by machines. As a result, fewer people will be able to purchase goods and services even though our capability to produce an abundance will continue to exist.

QUOTE

Resource-Based Economy

Simply stated, a resource-based economy utilizes existing resources - rather than money - to provide an equitable method of distribution in the most humane and efficient manner. It is a system in which all goods and services are available to everyone without the use of money, credits, barter, or any other form of debt or servitude.

To better understand a resource-based economy, consider this. If all the money in the world disappeared overnight, as long as topsoil, factories, personnel and other resources were left intact, we could build anything we needed to fulfill most human needs. It is not money that people require, but rather free access to most of their needs without worrying about financial security or having to appeal to a government bureaucracy. In a resource-based economy of abundance, money will become irrelevant.

The Venus Project...
